  • Year 7s and year 8s learn about mental health

7PC/PD have recently completed their Learnwell Group Workshop with Mind. The aim of the programme is to reduce stigma around mental health issues and promote habits that have a positive impact on student’s wellbeing.

Our students engaged in the programme so fervently that another workshop is being planned for a different Year 7 tutor group.

Programme Leader, Taylor Smart, had the following to say about working with PC/PD:

PC/PD and Ms Danks and Ms McNally have been incredible this term! Thank you for all of your support. I’d like to arrange another workshop with a different tutor group as I have really enjoyed working with your Year 7’s so far.”

We are looking forward to running more workshops like this in the future.

Mind have a very useful list of different types of mental illnesses, which you can find here.

Mental Health awareness has also been a major theme for Year 8 in Term 4. Each week in I-Development the topics have been related to an aspect of mental health, raising awareness of the issue and how help can be sought and delivered.

Mindfulness sessions, and a special Meditation and Relaxation session led by Ms Simpson, have helped the students to destress and refocus their minds.

Year 8 students were also visited by Jonny Benjamin MBE, who spoke to the year group in assembly about his struggles with mental health and the importance of talking to someone when you need to.

In his youtube channel, Jonny Benjamin shares his thoughts on why mental health should be taught in schools.

This video also raises awareness of schizophrenia.

You can find some more of his videos on this issue on his Youtube channel, and more information about him on his website.
