  • Pimlico’s Asma Deris becomes Speak Out regional Champion

Pimlico Academy was represented by Asma Deris at the Speak Out Challenge regional finals for Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster, at a special competition at Paddington Academy.

The Speak Out Challenge is a public speaking programme run by the Speakers Trust, and funded by the Jack Petchey Foundation. Students receive training to build their confidence, enabling them to speak with clarity, conviction and impact.

Judges were blown away by Asma’s speech ‘Me as a Muslim and a Woman’. She was crowned public speaking champion on the night, with pupils from Sion-Manning Catholic School and St George's Catholic School as runners up.

Pimlico Academy’s involvement in the Speak out Challenge ties in with the school’s vision to stimulate and develop confidence and thought among its pupils. Pimlico’s sponsor, Future Academies, would encourage all pupils to get involved in this outstanding competition, which provides opportunities and develops skills, to help pupils succeed in their future endeavours.
