Extended School
Extended Schools is the term given by the Government in its agenda for services that all schools should strive to provide in partnership with local authorities and local providers by 2010.
In principle, the Extended Schools agenda includes:
- A varied menu of activities - including study support, recreation, sport, arts and crafts, other special interest clubs, and volunteering, business and enterprise activities;
- Child care from 8am until 6pm;
- Swift and easy access to targeted and specialist services;
- Community access to facilities.
Here at Pimlico Academy we offer a fantastic and ever-expanding range of extra-curricular activities both on site and at local amenities before school, at lunchtime and after school. Many of our students take advantage of the activities on offer often staring their day at 7.30am at our free Breakfast club and library club and continue to participate in the many clubs throughout the day whether swimming, cookery, special effects make-up, dance, rugby, DJ workshop, cricket, canoeing, football, basketball, arts and crafts, table tennis, non-contact boxing, netball, film making, photography, and lots more.
We also work in partnership with Dream Arts, a core partner of our Arts specialist school status. Every Saturday Dream Arts provides quality arts projects for young people in the Pimlico area. It regularly engages over fifty 13 to 19 year olds in diverse weekly programmes including drama, dance, and singing which stimulate opportunities to develop original works to explore and express their values, thoughts and feelings. More information can be found on the website: http://www.dreamarts.org.uk or contact Becki Lunn on 020 7 266 8262 becki@dreamarts.org.uk
You will find the full range of clubs and activities on offer on the slide show with details of exactly what happens when and for whom on the extra-curricular timetable. We update this information on a termly basis so keep checking this website and the fortnightly Newsletter to find out what is new. Our students have also produced some DVDs as part of the extra curricular provision which can be seen to experience just how much they enjoy the activities.
