As part of the Building Schools for the Future initiative there is going to be a complete rebuild. Initial preparatory works have already begun and the Academy will move into the new building in stages, beginning with the new sports hall in April 2009. By September 2010 the new build will be complete and provide state of the art facilities including new music and drama facilities which have been designed with the school's existing specialism in Visual and Performing Arts in mind. The external landscaping work will be complete by the summer of 2011. Within the new building there will be also be a dedicated Learning Support Department, and a new community library and adult education centre.
